KK gives heady start Times fest

HYDERABAD: The nine-day Times Hyderabad Festival took off to a thumping start on Saturday night with the 'Don' of Hindi music, KK, pumping life into the Nampally Exhibition Grounds with his live-wire performance. Swarming with over 6,000 music enthusiasts from across the twin cities, the venue, lit beautifully under a clear sky, reverberated with the powerhouse renditions that the singer dished out one after the other. Such was the energy, both on and off stage, that even the rain Gods who briefly interrupted the enthralling show, decided to retire to their homes and let the show go on.
"Even they (the Gods above) do not want the music to stop," an excited Shruti P said as KK returned on stage, post a five-minute rain break, and found a bigger and better crowd awaiting him. So loud were the cheers, applauses and praises that the award winning artiste was compelled to profess his love for the city and dedicate one of his best compositions to the Hyderbadis. "This song has a special connect with Hyderabad and I ensure I sing it each time I am here," said KK before the words 'Tadap Tadap Ke Iss Dil Se' (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam) filled the Exhibition Ground air as the audience slipped into complete silence, which they later broke with a standing ovation to the master singer.
A similar sense of love, affection and peace took over the voluminous gathering when KK, in his class-apart style and robust voice, sang a few versus of 'Yaaron Dosti', 'Pal' (from his debut album 'Pal'), or even 'Zindagi Do Pal Ki' (from the Hrithik Roshan-Barbara Mori- starrer Kites).
But the mood was not so sober all through. Amidst the swaying and humming of tunes there were also those high-voltage points when the junta broke into 'latkas' and 'jhatkas' with 'Hum Dum Suniyo Re' (from Saathiya) or 'Khuda Jaane Kyun' (from Bachna Ae Haseeno). "KK is a rockstar. His voice has so much power that it just gets the listener hooked from the word go," said Sarath Gupta, a marketing executive who had given his rocking Saturday night party a miss to see his music idol perform live on stage. "Thanks to the Times festival for that," the KK fan quickly added. In fact even those who have seen the man sing to a live audience in the past admitted that this one was his best. "The energy and quality of sound is amazing today," said event manager C Someshwar who has compered many shows for the Bollywood musician previously.
But while the Hindi chartbusters kept the audience grooving, what ultimately won their hearts were the melodious notes of 'Nee Kosam' (For your sake) __ KK's debut Telugu song recorded way back in 2004 for the Nagarjuna starrer- 'Nenunnanu'. Endearments like "we love you KK" and "KK you rock" could be heard floating all across the venue, amidst the clapping and cheering.
The screams were, however, the loudest when the 'Golmaal' singer gave Hyderabad the first sneak peak into the much awaited title track of Shahrukh Khan's soon-to-be released film Don-2. "This is exclusively for Hyderabad because the audience here is the best," KK yelled.
And that was enough to make the evening worth a million dollars for all the Hyderabadi music buffs who gathered at the venue.
