Dense fog at border triggers increased patrolling

AMRITSAR: Border Security Force (BSF) has intensified patrolling along the 553km international border with Pakistan in Punjab due to prevailing foggy conditions. Taking advantage of the low visibility, smugglers and anti-national elements find it easier to go on with their wrongdoings.
BSF sources said, "There is nearly zero visibility which is why we have increased vehicular patrolling along the fence. The engine noise proves a deterrent to the cross-border smugglers.
BSF Inspector General (Frontier) Aditiya Mishra said there is now more patrolling during the night, and better intelligence that keeps an eye over illegal activities. Sources said intruder alarms, booby traps and bells have been installed. "In case of trespassing, a bright light glows for 14 seconds, and yellow fog lamps also do the job well".
However, sources said no measures had been taken on the Pakistan side. "We took precautions by installing the needful equipment".
Border Security Force has alerted their counterparts - Pak Rangers to remain vigilant. "They sounded positive during the last meeting held at Wagha (Pakistan)," said sources. "Our jawans are trained to endure tough conditions at the border," they said.
