KARNAL: Parents of a 20-year-old girl committed suicide along with
their son at Sikri in Karnal after she eloped days before her wedding on
Friday night.
Police said villagers told them that Manju was being married off against her wishes on December 7. She was said to be in a relationship with a youth from a neighbouring village. Cops said, unable to bear the shame, Rampal, 45, a class fourth employee at a government school, his wife, Santosh, 42, and son Sanjeev, 22, consumed poison. Rampal and Sanjeev died on Friday night, while Santosh on Saturday.
SHO Mahesh Sheoran said Manju had left home with another girl on Friday evening on the pretext of shopping and did not return. ``Police are trying to locate Manju.''
Manju had reportedly married the boy she had met at Kurekshetra's polytechnic college where the two studied. Her family had opposed their relationship, forcing to couple to seek police protection.
The girl's mother is said to have reportedly convinced her to return home. Later, her marriage was fixed with another person from Asandh block of the district.
