Little faith in Parliament, says Kejriwal

NEW DELHI: Team Anna continued its muscle flexing with member Arvind Kejriwal on Friday saying he had little faith in Parliament. The remarks came a day after Lok Sabha MPs including RJD chief Lalu Prasad criticized activists, urging Parliament not to surrender its supremacy to civil society.

Returning the barb, Kejriwal said he had little faith in Parliament after seeing the debate over Lokpal bill in Lok Sabha. He said he watched the debate on Thursday during the introduction of Lokpal bill "with great pain".

"Is this parliamentary democracy? Can it ever deliver India out of poverty, corruption and illiteracy? Is this Parliament really supreme? Are we to treat Lalu (Prasad), Mulayam (Singh Yadav), (Kapil) Sibal, P Chidambaram, and A Raja supreme? Will they ever allow strong anti-corruption law?" he said.

"They (MPs) say 'have faith in Parliament'. My mother says 'have faith in Lord Shiva'. I now tend to agree more with my mother," Kejriwal tweeted.

The activist said the group was open to talks with the government at anytime. The group has announced that anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare will sit on a three-day fast from December 27 onwards.
