HYDERABAD: Congress MP G Vivek along with TRS MLA E Rajender
were among the many who turned up on Sunday to pay tributes to slain
Maoist commander Koteswara Rao alias Kishanji at Peddapalli in
Karimnagar district.
Kishanji, killed in a firefight with security forces in West Bengal on November 24, was cremated at Peddapalli in presence of a large number of Maoist sympathizers.
Kishanji's body was brought to Hyderabad from Kolkata on Saturday and directly taken to Peddapalli under tight security. The Maoist was laid to rest at Peddapalli Ousulabavi burial ground where his nephew Satish performed the last rites. Maoist sympathizer and revolutionary writer P Varavara Rao read out the statement of the central committee before the cremation. Raising the pitch to suspend Operation Green Hunt, Rao dubbed Kishanji's encounter killing as "political murder".
"Kishanji's encounter is part of Operation Green Hunt and the government should stop combing in the name of the operation. His (Kishanji's) encounter was a political murder," Rao said.
The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) has called for two-day "Bharat bandh" on December 4-5 to protest against the killing of Kishanji. The central committee has also called for a "protest week" from Tuesday.
