Court to hear Koneru’s spl status plea on Nov 25

HYDERABAD: Special judge B Nagamaruthi Sarma of the CBI court on Wednesday reserved his orders to November 25 on the issue of special class prisoner status for Koneru Prasad, the key accused in the Emaar scam.

Disputing his claims that he is highly-educated and high profile man, CBI told the court that the accused did not go beyond intermediate and he deserved no special class status.

The counsel for the accused said that even intermediate education was considered very high forty years ago. "Whether the petitioner has a superior mode of living or not is the crux of the argument and not the academic qualifications," he said. The judge reserved his orders.

In a separate order, the judge allowed the income tax department of Bangalore and Hyderabad to take copies of the relevant papers that were seized by CBI in course of its investigation into the Emaar and Jagan assets cases.

The judge posted the hearing of the bail petition of V D Rajagopal, an accused in the illegal mining scam to November 25. His petition seeking special class prisoner status in the jail too will come up for hearing on the same day.
