Siddhesh Lad's 127 gives Indian Oil lead in Times Shield


MUMBAI: A timely century by middle order batsman Siddhesh Lad and his two useful partnerships helped Indian Oil to a vital first innings lead over Bharat Petroleum on the third and last day of the Times Shield 'A' Division Cricket Shield tournament's last league match at the MIG Ground, Bandra on Friday.

Chasing Bharat Petroleum's total of 374 for a first innings lead, Indian Oil were 112 for 4 at one stage. However, the fifth wicket pair of Wasim Jaffer and young Lad batted with their heads down to add 119 invaluable runs in 163 balls.

Jaffer made 76. Lad got an able partner in Abbas Ali. The pair put in another 120 runs for the sixth wicket before Lad was out for a well made 127 in 196 balls. Abbas Ali contributed 51 off 71 balls with seven fours.

Air-India 327 drew with DY Patil Group 'A' 456 for 7 (Shoaib Shaikh 38, Sreedeep Mangella 73, Anand Singh 69, Yogesh Takawale 57,Siddharth Chitnis 38, Iqbal Abdulla 59 n.o; Harshal Soni 3-93).

Western Railway 'B' 170 and 344 for 8 (A.Malik 64, Parag Madgaikar 125, S.Khan 51) drew with DY Patil Group 'B' 315. C
Central Railway 153 and 332 for 6 (Nishan Shivalkar 105, A.Pawanikar 49, S.Faizal 53, drew with Tata Sports Club 351.
