HYDERABAD: Justice Naushad Ali
of the AP High Court has sentenced a 'defiant' assistant commissioner
of endowments to one month jail for his deliberate violation of the
court orders in administering the oath of office to trustees of a temple
in Medak district.
What annoyed the judge was blaming of minister J Geeta Reddy by the official for non-compliance of the court order. The judge made this order after hearing a contempt petition filed by P Shivasharanappa Patil and four others who charged assistant commissioner D Krishna Prasad with not administering the oath of office to them as trustees of Sri Rachanna Swamy temple, Badampeta village in Kohir mandal of Medak district despite orders appointing them as trustees by the endowments commissioner and the order of the court.
But the official, even after the direction, stated before the court that district minister J Geetha Reddy, who is holding the portfolio of major industries, issued oral instructions not to go ahead with administering oath of office citing a complaint against the petitioner trustees. The assistant commissioner claimed the minister referred the matter to her colleague in the endowments department.
The judge took objection to this and sentenced the endowment official to one month jail. The judge rejected the apology tendered by the official because they were found to be not bona fide and even the state's response in the case was found to be not up to the mark. However, upon the request made by the counsel for endowments to give them to appeal against the order, the judge suspended the order for three weeks.
