NAGPUR: The fact that they did not concede a single goal in this year did augur well for Sunil Hi-tech Warriors
before the start of the semifinal game. Talks were in and around their
formidable defence line. No one had cracked the code to surpass their
defenders.
Yet, what panned out at the Yeshwant Stadium on Friday was an exceptional effort from their elusive forward line which displayed a complete demolition job.
Courtesy terrific work from the trio of Prakash Thorat, Rabindra Ghosh and Badrv Ibrahim Martins, Warriors crushed Gupta Tigers 3-0 to enter the final of Lokmat-organized Nagpur Premier League-II.
Though it took their forwards to warm up a bit, once they broke the deadlock, Warriors kept drawing blood with their lethal attempts. The new entrants rode high on Ibrahim's smart work to open their account just before the lemon break.
Ibrahim reaped the benefits of a superb cross from Ghosh which spilled from the hands of Tigers' custodian Amit Chourasiya in the 44th minute.
Hardly had Tigers gathered themselves from the opening salvo, than a Thorat special from just outside the box left them awestruck in the 47th minute. Thorat's brilliant ball kissed the cross bar on its way to bulge the net. The knock out punch was delivered again by Ibrahim in the 57th minute through an acute angle goal.
The other semifinal saw Baidyanath Heroes beat Raisoni Achievers 2-1 to enter their second consecutive final of the tournament. Heroes got going in the very third minute when Vijit Shetty stunned Raisoni defenders to net the opening goal.
Though Raisoni netted the equalizer via their foreign striker Tanko Abubakri's excellent effort, they couldn't hung on to it as just five minutes after the breather, Baidyanath's Michael Nwokure regained the lead with his solo effort from centre line on the pass of Shahnawaz Pathan.
Heroes will now lock horns with Warriors in the summit clash on what is expected to be an eventful Sunday evening. The hardliner between Raisoni and Tigers will be held on Saturday.
