HYDERABAD: The Dabeerpura police
on Wednesday arrested a man for trying to distribute a 65-minute movie
containing scenes likely to hurt the religious sentiments of a section
of the Muslim population. Police said he did not have the Censor Board's
clearance for the movie.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house of Mohammed Salman Hyder, 39, from Murtuza Nagar, Bada Bazaar and seized 352 DVDs of the Urdu movie 'Inqelab'.
According to the Dabeerpura police, the movie contained certain scenes that showed a sect within the Muslim community in an objectionable manner.
A fortnight ago, police got to know that Hyder had made a 65-minute digital movie whose content was communally sensitive in nature. The Dabeerpura police had summoned Hyder to the police station and took a written undertaking from him stating that the movie would not be released in any form into the market before Muharram.
"Today, we received a complaint from one Waheeduddin Hyder Jaffery that DVDs of the movie 'Inqelab' were available with some shop owners in the Old City. Our investigations revealed that Hyder had released about 100 DVDs into the market three days ago," Dabeerpura inspector D Prasanna Kumar said.
Based on the complaint, police raided Hyder's house in Murtazanagar in Bada Bazar on Wednesday and seized 352 DVDs of the movie, 62 blank DVDs, movie labels, three bundles of movie stickers, a portable hard disc, a Sony handycam and a computer from his possession.
Police slapped cases against Hyder under Sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was arrested and produced in court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Police had taken a written undertaking from him that the movie would not be released in any form. But on Wednesday DVDs of the film had reached markets.
