Devotee donates 162 diamonds to Tirumala deity

HYDERABAD: A devotee donated 162 diamonds to Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala. Officials were surprised to see the diamonds in the Srivari hundi during counting at Parakamani on Wednesday.

The diamonds were worth Rs 40 lakhs according to TTD JEO Srinivas Raju. Sources said the devotee may have dropped the diamonds into the hundi on Tuesday. Usually, gold and silver jewellery dropped into the Lord's hundi are taken out, melted and sent to the treasury.

However, diamonds are stored and used for making crowns and other jewellery for the Lord.
